Where have you been???

Where have I been? I wish I could say traveling the world but unfortunately I can't. As freelancers, we begin to learn the "good" times of the year which another words would also mean "
busy."

YES, THE BUSY SEASON HAS ARRIVED!!!! and YES, it has arrived earlier than usual...

This "busy" time is not bad, obviously for business it is very good just a little overwhelmed but I am getting back to my normal self, if that is even an option anymore.

So where have I been??? Let's see:
Flagstaff, Sedona, Phoenix, Tempe, Scottsdale, Glendale and Peoria
and let's not forget my office and taking breaks outdoors in the desert's beaming sun!

Starting work at 6:00am every morning so I am on the 9:00am East coast schedule to correspond with clients in NYC and different parts of the east coast. Completing and finishing up projects by this weekend so I can begin Monday on a possible very long term contract with a company if I can keep my head screwed on properly to give myself the chance to learn and be able to perform the way I know how to.

Does this stop a freelancer from taking on more business? NEVER

As Eugie Foster said to me this week, "If you want something done, give it to a busy person?"

There are no truer words than these. Busy keeps our minds going and the ideas flowing.

Hang on for the ride, its going to be one quick rush of a summer and heeeerrrreeeee weeeeee gooooooooooooooooooooooo...

Inquiries, Inquiries and More Inquiries

The month of February has started off with many inquiries from all different types of companies and projects. From marketing companies and graphic artists to SMB's and individual businesses, I have been sending quotes out everyday.

The challenge is to receive a response back from these inquiries after I give my copywriting rates. The time to receive a response or an estimated time when the project needs to be complete has posed a difficulty. Until they need your services, a response to an e-mail or phone call does not occur.

As I always say, "All the promises are nice to hear but till a contract is signed and money is exchanged, it doesn't mean S***."

Orientation and Professor Rating

I had my first orientation at Scottsdale Community College and what a wonderful school! The day was planned out so well and it allowed faculty and adjuncts to become familiar with one another, as well as get to know the campus better.

The head of hospitality made a very funny joke during one of the presentations about RateMyProfessor.com about getting a chili pepper and only a few of us understood. Of course I was one of the few hysterical laughing as I have received a few chili peppers in my past college teaching experiences.

So here are the links directly to my ratings for any of my future students who want to learn more about who I am and what other students have expressed about me as their college Professor and teacher.

Bergen Community College

William Paterson University, Wayne, NJ

Ramapo Ridge Middle School

This always helps in reminding me why I love to teach!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

With the new year came some questions into my mind concerning my career. This happens every few months so why not with the new year?

The reality is I love my business and I also love to teach. I was considering going back to teaching full time but after seeing how quickly my business has grown and how it continues to be strong, why would I give it up?

Sometimes we all need a wake up call and be proud of our accomplishments. Do I want to make more money? OF COURSE! Do I enjoy what I do for a living? DEF!

When it comes to enjoying your career and being your own boss, it is hard to dismiss this fact when going back to a full time job. Being a Woman Entrepreneur takes hard work and determination but the more I continue to push PearlyWrites forward, the more I see what an amazing experience this has become.

Wishing for more good experiences in 2007!

Flutternoia

What is Flutternoia?

While I was getting my BA in English, I had a wonderful English Professor named Dr. Cori Wells. What a wonderful teacher and person.

She presented the class an assignment called Neologism essays. The goal was to make up a word and give the meaning behind how the word came of being and form a definition.

My word was Flutternoia. Unfortunately, I do not know where my essay went. I think it was lost on my back up floppy disk (yes, floppy disk!).

I do remember how I discovered my word. It was after a summer spent in Israel where I taught Israeli students the English language and just the pure adrenaline of living in Israel. It was also around the time of many bus bombings occurring so the combination of everything brought slight paranoia.

Flutternoia came of being from the flutter of butterflies wings you may feel in your stomach from an adrenaline rush with the paranoia that can occur for a split second.

I now use this assignment in my own English classes and am always amazed with the words that my students discover.

Freelancing

For those who are out in Internet land and are freelancers, is it all worth it?

Please offer some advice or comments.
