Contributing An Article That I Never Reviewed Before Publishing

As a copywriter, I do not mind contributing articles or copy to start up magazines who need copy in exchange for free advertising. I have and still do it since it is just part of the business and networking.

I finally received a copy of one of the issues where I was asked to contribute an article about being owned by two dogs, and things to do with our dogs in the area we live since the entire issue was about dogs. I read the article and pull up my original draft to compare and YIKES! The published article doesn't even sound like me! The style and voice isn't even close to mine AND there were mistakes!

I always send a draft first to the editor to make sure I am on the right path of the type of article they want in the issue. I did the same thing this time, was asked to change the direction a bit which I did. Sent back another draft and then didn't hear back from the magazine editor.

The article that was published was pieced together with choppy sentences (like what I would correct when I taught English to my students), sentences were added that sound awkward and mistakes! On top of it, this lovely piece of writing has my name on it!

Yes, I understand it was a contribution and the editor has the right to do as she pleases, but in the past she has always sent me a proof to approve before going to publish and this time she didn't. Was there a reason I didn't receive the final say for this issue? Now I know why; because my contribution was totally butchered with a different voice and mistakes!!

It is a local, new publication and I just hope if anyone reads the article it doesn't reflect badly upon PearlyWrites writing capabilities as I am trying to build our clientèle locally in Arizona. If anyone does happen to read the article, "The Joys of Being Owned by Dogs" with my name on it, please please please do not judge our company's writing from this one publication and ask for samples from us directly.

Another Case Study

Some copywriters do not write for the Adult market and others do but may not advertise it. About six months ago I had a second site designed by Josh Gilmore for our Adult copywriting section of our business. It is called PB Vixen.

PB Vixen is a partnership created by Ralph Greco Jr. and myself, Lisa Weinberger. Ralph has over 30 years writing erotica and then there’s me, the editing and online marketing obsessed Vixen, so when we team up we produce some amazing, converting, optimized copy for the Adult market.

I am happy to say we are ranking number one in the search engines for the keywords: Adult copywriting.

We began getting a few calls and some emails and when I asked the clients how they found us, they said they did a Google search. Another case study that in less than six (6) months we have organically ranked at the number one position for one of our targeted key phrases. Pretty amazing considering the Adult market is over flooded with sites.

What does this tell us?
That by sticking to the basics of SEO writing and online marketing, ranking number one and maintaining the top position can be achieved.

Sleep Apnea Newsweek Article

Congrats and Mazel Tov to my friend and co-founder of PB Vixen Ralph Greco Jr. for getting an article published in this week's Newsweek about Sleep Apnea.

This is a wonderful credit as well as Ralph finding out he has severe Sleep Apnea after 25 years. Finding out has changed his life and outlook as well as staying awake throughout the day doesn't hurt either. :)

A big Hazaa to Ralphie and check out his article!

HubPages Newbie

I have seen numerous advertisements on Craigslist for HubPages but never followed the link to see what it is all about. I just signed up last night but from my first impression it seems like another social community sharing "hubs." I guess another word for hubs would be blogs.

It has a nice design, pretty easy to navigate and tries to offer the most help to its members. The members also try and help one another out through the forum boards. If you have an AdSense account, they offer AdSense revenue share and promote social bookmarking.

I am not sure how well it works as an online marketing tool but I will have to give it a few months to measure and test these findings. If anyone else is on HubPages, feel free to comment and let me know your thoughts. Let's become fans of each other!

Happy Hubbing!

Helpful SEO Software

I attended a conference in San Jose, Cali in November hosted by Simon Leung and met a great group of Internet Marketers. The light bulb went on last night, (yes a few months later), and I realized I met Mr. JV, Rod Beckwith who has some amazing software programs to help with SEO. From article spinners, automatic submittal programs and more!

It is one thing to purchase a product from someone you have never met but I actually met Rod and he's a great guy. He actually knows what he is talking about and not just some hyped up sales letter on a squeeze page. We both presented at the workshop so I was able to actually learn from the creator of these different programs.

The submittal process of articles and press releases can take hours and Rod has taken his experiences with his own online businesses and created some great "helpers." When managing online marketing campaigns, it never hurts to use software programs specifically designed for the purpose of giving your clients the best service with the best results.

Happy SEOing!

Searches and SEO

I am not sure how many people realize that when they are conducting a Google, Yahoo or MSN search, they are logged into their account. If you have a gmail account, when you do a Google search, do you realize that Google knows where you are located and structures the search for that area?

For example, if I am signed into my gmail account and do a search for “Pet Sitters,” the results that pop up are usually ones located in Arizona though I never used the word Arizona or AZ in my keyword search.

For anyone providing SEO services, there are different markets to consider when creating an SEO campaign for your clients Websites. Some SEO’s will use state or city sub-domain names so when particular individuals in a specific area are searching for services or products, their site will come up in the results.

Ah, how tricky the top search engines can be!
